Interesting Interview with Titanium Jewelry Designer
Thursday, July 12, 2007

After viewing the Interview with jewelry designer Edward Merill I learned that this talented man actually came up with the everlasting black titanium by mistake. While making a piece of jewelry for a client in England he was heating a number of refractory metals combined with 18k white gold, and the newly created alloy turned jet black! He thought is was just the casing and could be removed but couldn't thus, creating Black Titanium. It is not an applied coating but is formed from the outside and works inward. It is a result of the chemistry between the Black-Ti™ alloy, temperature and atmospheric conditioning. It has been compared to a ceramic like surface, resisting scratches.
The client was disappointed at first but still wore the black bracelet and after getting so many compliments on it, never wanted to return it! Now, black titanium rings and jewelry have gained so much popularity, particularly with men its no wonder Edward Merill has become such a success!
Thank you,
TJ rep.
