Setting Yourself Apart in this Highly Competitive Professional World

Friday, August 17, 2007

In the corporate world, delivering results and getting noticed are key mantras. There is often more focus on function rather than form. However, in order to be noticed you need to stand out in this highly competitive professional world. When it comes time for promotion you have to be sure that you have a presence in your employer's mind.

Recently people have adapted the idea that you can get just as much done wearing a pair of flip-flops as a you can wearing a nice pair of dress shoes. As a result, men's sartorial means of expression have been limited to such things as a colorful suit lining or a tie with a quirky pattern while favored items from the past, such as cufflinks, have started to fade from view or have gone downmarket.

This is something that you can actually use to your advantage. By wearing a nice pair of cufflinks you can set yourself apart from all the rest of the suits around your office as being a classy businessman. You can give your employer the idea that you actually put some real effort into your job and don't just crawl out of bed ten minutes before it's time to leave and throw on the suit from the day before. In this way you can earn his appreciation and when it comes time for that promotion your name will be on the top of his list.
