Black Titanium's Accidental Discovery
Friday, December 14, 2007

Our interview with jewelry designer Edward Rosenberg revealed an astonishing fact. This talented man actually came up with the everlasting black titanium by mistake while making a piece of jewelry for a client in England. He was heating a number of refractory metals combined with 18k white gold, and the alloy turned jet black!
His first thought was that only the casing was affected and he imagined that the black could be removed. Instead, he discovered it was not an applied coating, rather the metal itself had in fact been altered into a new material, now known as Black-Ti! The new material was dark black with a ceramic like surface that is scratch resistant.
At first, the client was disappointed, but wore the black bracelet anyway. After getting so many compliments on it, however, he never wanted to return it! Now, black titanium rings and jewelry have gained so much popularity, particularly with men its no wonder Edward Merill has become such a success!
